Using Irys in Word
Research, draft, and cite check from the Irys sidebar without leaving Microsoft Word.
Once the add-in is installed and you are signed in, the Irys sidebar becomes your AI-powered workspace inside Microsoft Word.
Research
Run legal research queries directly from the sidebar. Type a question — for example, "What is the standard for summary judgment in the Southern District of New York?" — and Irys returns cited results you can review without switching applications.
Results include case law citations, statutory references, and secondary sources.
Click any citation to view the full excerpt.
Copy a passage and paste it directly into your document.
Research in the Word Add-In supports the same tiers available in the web app: Base, Research, and Deep Research. Select the tier from the dropdown at the top of the sidebar.
AI-powered drafting
Use the AI to help you write and revise text without leaving your document.
Cite checking
Ask Irys to verify the citations in your document. The AI cross-references case names, reporter volumes, page numbers, and pin cites against legal databases and flags potential issues:
Incorrect citations — wrong reporter, volume, or page number.
Outdated authorities — cases that have been overruled or superseded.
Missing information — incomplete parallel citations or pin cites.
Matter context in the sidebar
When you are working inside a Matter in Irys One, the sidebar has access to all documents in that matter. This means you can ask questions like "What are the payment terms in the vendor agreement?" and the AI will search across your matter documents to answer — no re-uploading required.
Tip: For the best results, link your Word document to a Matter before starting research. This gives the AI the full context of your case or deal.
