Creating and Managing Matters
Create shared workspaces that bring all your tools and documents together.
Matters are the central workspace in Irys One. Each Matter brings together documents, conversations, research, drafts, tasks, and knowledge — giving every tool shared context.
Creating a new Matter
The Matter layout
Every Matter uses a 2-column, 6-panel layout that organizes your workspace:
Documents
All files uploaded to this Matter. Upload once, use everywhere.
Conversations
AI chat threads scoped to this Matter's context.
Research
Research sessions and findings tied to the Matter.
Drafts
Document drafts generated or edited within the Matter.
Tasks
Track work items with assignees, due dates, and priorities.
Knowledge Graph
Visual map of how documents, entities, and concepts relate.
Switch between panels to access different aspects of your work. Everything stays connected through the Matter's shared context.
Uploading documents
Upload documents directly to a Matter to make them available across all tools.
Drag and drop files into the Documents panel, or click to browse.
Unlimited uploads — add as many documents as you need.
Uploaded documents are automatically indexed and available to Document Analysis, Compare, Chat, and all other tools.
Documents uploaded to a Matter are also stored in the Library. A folder is automatically created and linked to the Matter.
Context actions
From the Documents panel, each document offers quick context actions:
Open in DA — Open the document directly in Document Analysis for deep review.
Compare with... — Select a second document and launch a side-by-side comparison.
Start New Analysis — Begin a new Multi-Document Analysis using this document as a starting point.
The AI bar
At the bottom of every Matter is a persistent AI bar:
"Ask Irys about this matter..."
Type any question and Irys responds with full awareness of the Matter's documents, conversations, research, and knowledge. No need to re-upload or re-explain context — the AI already knows what you are working on.
The AI bar is context-aware. Ask questions like "Summarize the key risks across all uploaded agreements" and Irys will draw from every document in the Matter.
Matter status
Track where each Matter stands with built-in statuses:
Active
Work is in progress.
Waiting
On hold or awaiting input.
Closed
Work is complete.
Change status from the Matter header at any time.
Assignees and due dates
Assign team members to a Matter and set due dates to keep work on track. Assignees have full access to all documents, conversations, and tools within the Matter.
Tasks panel
The Tasks panel lets you manage work items directly inside a Matter. Each task includes:
Title
A short description of the task.
Assignee
The team member responsible.
Due date
When the task should be completed.
Status
Current state of the task (e.g., To Do, In Progress, Done).
Priority
Importance level to help with triage.
Create tasks to break down complex work, assign responsibilities, and track progress without leaving the Matter.
